Mjølkevegen and the 1000 meter

A boat trip in Jotunheimen and a ride on a spectacular ledge.

A bicycle route through the mountains including a boat ride and a spectacular descent to Øvre Årdal. Mostly gravel but with some parts on paved roads. The total length on land is 106 km.

The part between Ryfoss and Beitostølen is signed “Mjølkevegen” and brings you high up with excellent views in all directions. North of the ski resort Beitostølen the route is shared with a popular tourist road across Valdresflya.

You will get a good rest travelling with a passenger boat on the lake Bygdin. Be careful how your bike is transported onboard, as you need your bike to work all the way.

The part on a ledge west of Tyin, on gravel can be dangerous when the weather is wet, which can cause landslides and falling rocks. This part of the route is not maintained, but is worth the effort if you can pass through. The most challenging part is going down to Øvre Årdal on an unpaved serpentine road. The alternative is to follow the paved road down to Øvre Årdal.

The best food can be found where the boat starts or ends by the lake Bygdin. Here you can also find places to stay.

This is a route for summer and early autumn. It’s also a high mountain ride, so be prepared for wet and cold weather any time of the year — View in full at http://ridewithgps.com/routes/31656951

This route is easily combined with the route Tindevegen and Sognefjellet
