Tindevegen and Sognefjellet

It feels like dancing on the top of the world.

Climbing Tindevegen may be one of the major challenges you can do in Norway on bicycle, but you are rewarded with a magnificent scenery. The length of the ride is 75 km, with some long and steep climbs.

The route takes you from sea level by Sognefjorden to the high mountains in Jotunheimen, with some of the highest peaks in Scandinavia around you. This ride is only meant for summer or early autumn, and at 1400 meters you can expect cold weather even then.

The only real place for some refill is Turtagrø Hotel, just where Tindevegen ends and Sognefjellet starts. Turtagrø is also a good choice for an overnight stay, and you’ll also find a campground opposite the road. This is also a popular starting point to go hiking in Jotunheimen.

The route starts in the industrial town Øvre Årdal and ends at Elveseter hotel in Bøverdalen, a beautiful mediaeval inspired lodge. — View in full at http://ridewithgps.com/routes/31660610

This route can easily be combined with the route Mjølkevegen and the 1000 meter.
