Venabygdsfjellet

Climb into the mountains of Rondane.

Use this ride to enter the landscapes around the epic mountains of Rondane. This area has been visited by artists and hikers for ages, coming here to experience the magic light around the high peaks, and the unique green colour from the characteristic reindeer lichen covering the landscape. The described route is 38 km on paved roads.

This route starts from the station in the little village Ringebu. The first part brings you higher and higher with always changing views back down into the well kept farmlands of Gudbrandsdalen. Enjoy the old vernacular log houses along the way. When you pass the church in Venabygd there is still a bit to climb, but soon you will leave the forest and enter into a spacious mountain plateau, with the peaks spread around.

You will pass Venabu with a shop and a café, with some cabins and hotels spread around. This is a good place to get som refill, either from the supermarket, or the roadside café. If your looking for a bed or a better meal, find your way to one of the hotels. From Venabu the road is easier, open, and when you get further east even wider. Enjoy the wonderful mountain views before the descent to the next valley.

This route is best for summer rides or even early autumn. Note that this is a mountain crossing, which means that you can expect winds and much cooler weather in the height. Bring something to keep you warm, especially for the steep descent on the other side.
